Understanding depression

When depression treatment hasn’t worked well enough

Some people continue to experience significant symptoms after trying medication and psychotherapy. This is often called treatment-resistant depression.

You are not out of options

Major depressive disorder can affect sleep, energy, concentration, relationships, work, and the ability to enjoy life. When antidepressant treatment has not provided satisfactory improvement—or side effects have made medication difficult—your clinician may discuss other approaches.

Why TMS may be considered

TMS works differently from medication. It uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. Treatment is non-invasive, performed while you are awake, and does not require anesthesia.

Eligibility depends on your diagnosis, health history, previous treatments, implanted devices, seizure risk, and insurance requirements. Dr. Navdeep Sood determines whether TMS is appropriate after an individualized evaluation.
